Life is a numbers game. We witness it every day by the marketing campaigns that inundate us with products over and over again until it becomes a part of our subconscious. This also applies to relationships and work. The more we are around somebody or place, the more familiar we become. This same principle applies to a great headshot in acting. The more auditions one gets from a great shot the greater the chance of getting seen. This is where it becomes a numbers game. If auditions are scarce then the chance of getting a call-back diminishes. With more auditions the process gets easier because the stress about getting another audition is lessened. With that, there is a greater ease with more personality being revealed. It’s all about relaxation and ease in acting. This also applies to life. With relaxation comes a tendency to take more risks and allows more of our personality to come out. Eventually, and over time, that long sought after break becomes more of a reality because connections are forged. This is when others start to trust in our work and are willing to take risks by calling us in. This is why persistence is so important. But in our faced paced society we tend to give up easily if things don’t start happening right away. Success, regardless of any profession is something that develops over time. If we believe in something strong enough in our heart and are willing to put the time into it, then amazing things can happen. So not unlike Vegas, life and acting is really a numbers game. It takes a great headshot and hard persistent work to make that break happen. Don’t take no for any answer. Believe in yourself even if it means going against the odds. The payoff will be big, not necessarily in monetary terms but a deeper fulfillment greater than any payday.
